Almost a year has passed since our trip to San Francisco, but I've only just got around to processing and uploading my final batch of photos to Flickr.
These were all taken during a guided tour of the murals in the Mission District organised by Precita Eyes Mural Arts Association.
Early on a Saturday morning we caught the Muni from North Beach, where we were staying, down to the Mission. There were a handful of people hanging around obviously waiting for the guide to show up, including, it turned out, a young woman from Bristol who had uprooted to Canada.
The tour began at Precita Park, next to the Elementary School, moved on to Garfield Square and then Balmy Alley (Street) in which almost every surface contains a mural. Artwork has been painted here since the 70s and has served to reflect social, community and political concerns.
