smooth

Forgot to mention the incredibly smooth pebbles on Budleigh Salterton beach. Granted, I still wouldn't want to walk over them barefoot but they certainly had a Zen-like charm about them.

Nice pics! I went to Budleigh Salterton something like 20-odd years ago. Followed the River Otter from it's mouth and up to Ottery Saint Mary on a walk with my Dad (a kind of father and son bonding sort of thing). Hadn't heard the name in ages, so great to come across it again.

Have you also been to Newton Poppleford? It's up river.

Glad this post brought back some pleasant memories for you. Thanks for your comments! We drove through Newton Poppleford on the way from Sidmouth. After consulting Google maps it looks as though we would have reached it on our walk had we not turned back at Otterton - probably would have been a good 3 miles further. Originally, M's dad's route had us walking along the coastal path on the way back to Budleigh. In the end we just retraced our route back to the seafront. However, we're thinking a trip back there would make a nice day out in the summer so perhaps we'll do a longer walk next time...
